To start a new custom caller in Scam With Your Friends, open Character Creator. Following Hotfix 2, it opens directly into creating a caller. To edit an existing caller, use Daily Callers instead.
The Steam game supports custom personalities through JSON files, custom voices through WAV files, and Steam Workshop content. Those supported formats do not establish a complete file schema or import procedure. No verified JSON field list, save directory, WAV sampling specification, or precise upload sequence is available here.
Choose the entry point for your task
| Your goal | Confirmed entry point or feature |
|---|---|
| Start a new caller | Character Creator opens directly into caller creation |
| Edit a caller that already exists | Open it through Daily Callers |
| Customize a personality | The game supports JSON personality files |
| Customize a voice | The game supports voice cloning with WAV files |
| Use community caller content | Steam Workshop is supported |
Start by deciding whether you are creating something new or changing something already in your caller selection. That determines the entry point. Looking for an old edit screen inside the creation flow can lead you away from the current interface.

Earlier gameplay interface shown for orientation; current caller controls may differ.
Start a new caller in the current creator
Open Character Creator and work with the controls the game actually displays. The current documented behavior takes you directly into creating a caller, so an older recording may show an intermediate screen that is no longer relevant.
Read the available fields before changing a file outside the game. A feature description saying that JSON personalities are supported is not enough to infer which keys the current creator expects, which fields are required, or how their values are validated.
If the current interface exposes an existing caller file or provides an export option, that current-game output can be a reference for the structure it actually uses. This guide does not establish that such an export control exists or where it would be located. Do not follow a made-up menu path to obtain one.
Keep an unchanged copy of any existing local file before experimenting with its contents. That is a general file-editing precaution, rather than a game-specific save-location instruction.
Edit existing callers through Daily Callers
Hotfix 2 identifies Daily Callers as the place to edit existing callers. Use that route when you want to change an existing character instead of starting a new creation.
The separate Localize Voice buttons have been removed. Instructions that depend on those buttons describe an older interface and should not be treated as a reason to reinstall the game or look for a hidden setting.
The available update notes do not specify every replacement control for voice customization. Follow the controls in the current caller-editing interface rather than inventing an equivalent old-button sequence.
Keep personality, voice, and selection separate
A personality JSON file, a voice WAV file, and the list of callers used by the game serve different roles. Changing one does not by itself establish that the other two are connected correctly.
For example, a caller may exist as content while its connection to Daily Callers is the relevant problem. Launch fixes addressed uploaded custom callers losing that connection after a restart. That is a specific known issue that was fixed, not proof that every missing caller has the same cause.
Similarly, Workshop upload problems are different from JSON syntax problems. An earlier fix addressed stuck Workshop uploads blocking other caller uploads. Rewriting a character's personality is not an established solution to a stalled upload.
Understand the reset behavior before using it
Resetting Daily Callers now refreshes the latest defaults. Daily Callers can also be cleared without enabling random community callers.
These are separate behaviors. Clearing a list should not be described as automatically opting into random community content. Resetting defaults should not be presented as a verified way to repair every custom character file.
The update notes do not provide a complete account of every local preservation or overwrite effect. Inspect the current confirmation and keep copies of files you intend to retain before experimenting with list-management actions.
Check a result without assuming unsupported compatibility
After making a change, inspect whether the intended caller appears in the game's relevant selection and whether the interface reports an error. If you encounter a problem, record whether it concerns opening the creator, editing through Daily Callers, reading a file, uploading to Workshop, or loading a voice.
Those are different failure points. A JSON file that parses successfully is not automatically compatible with the game's caller structure, and a valid WAV container is not proof that every audio setting is accepted.
Until the current schema and full file flow are established, do not use a downloadable template or a list of invented keys as if it were official. The confirmed starting points are Character Creator for new callers and Daily Callers for existing ones; more specific file instructions require the actual current-game format.
